MISINFO ALERT: INEC Denies Fake Notice on APC Lagos Reps Candidates
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a document circulating on social media which claims to be an official public notice containing the names of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the Federal House of Representatives elections in Lagos State for the 2027 general election.
The Commission made the statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, June 22, 2026, to alert the public to the circulation of the false document and prevent misinformation about its electoral processes.
INEC described the document as fake, misleading, and not originating from the Commission. It stressed that the purported notice did not emanate from any of its verified platforms, official publications, or administrative procedures, and should therefore be disregarded in its entirety.
The electoral body further clarified that it has not authorised, approved, or published any such list of candidates for the 2027 general election in Lagos State or any other part of the country, warning that the circulation of such material could mislead members of the public and distort understanding of its electoral activities.
INEC also addressed concerns over the authenticity of the document’s endorsement, stating that the signature appearing on the publication does not belong to the Secretary to the Commission. It described the use of the signature as fraudulent and misleading, capable of undermining public trust in official electoral communication.
The Commission added that the document did not originate from any official INEC communication channel, platform, or process, reiterating that only information released through its verified outlets should be regarded as authentic.
It urged members of the public, political parties, stakeholders, and the media to disregard the document completely and avoid amplifying unverified information that could distort public understanding of the electoral process.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and the timely dissemination of accurate and credible information on all electoral activities across the country.
