FACT-CHECK: Viral Image Claiming Adeleke Visited Atiku Abubakar at His Campaign Office Is False

CLAIM

A viral Facebook post shared by political commentator Lere Olayinka, a media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, claims that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke visited former Vice President Atiku Abubakar at his alleged campaign office in Abuja and presented him with a certificate.

It was accompanied by a photograph showing Adeleke and Atiku holding what appeared to be the same certificate.

As of the time of this fact-check, the post had generated 641 reactions, 157 comments and 15 shares.

The post was accompanied by a photograph of Adeleke and Atiku holding a framed document.

VERIFICATION

DNN FactCheck reviewed the viral post, the photograph attached to it, the purported location and available reports concerning the relationship between Adeleke and Atiku following the Osun governorship election.

The verification found that Atiku Abubakar did congratulate Adeleke following his re-election as Osun State governor. In a message published on August 16, 2026, Atiku congratulated Adeleke and said his victory reflected the choice of the people of Osun at the ballot box. However, the congratulatory message did not mention any visit by Adeleke or the presentation of a Certificate of Return to Atiku.

DNN FactCheck found no credible report confirming that Adeleke subsequently visited Atiku at a campaign office or presented him with the certificate shown in the viral photograph.

The purported address stated in the post “Number 419, Photoshop AI Avenue, Dubai, Abuja” iis another major red flag. The address combines “419,” “Photoshop” and “AI” and also places Dubai and Abuja within the same address, indicating that it was constructed for comic or satirical effect rather than to identify a genuine campaign office.

DNN FactCheck also examined the photograph accompanying the claim. The image shares the same visual composition as an earlier photograph involving Adeleke and Peter Obi, including the background, body positions, hand placement and the certificate being held. In the version circulating with Atiku, his face appears in place of Peter Obi’s while other elements of the original image remain unchanged.

The certificate visible in the photograph also contains references to the Government of Anambra State of Nigeria and a Certificate of Recognition Award. It therefore does not establish that Adeleke presented Atiku with his official Certificate of Return from the Osun governorship election.

The wording of the post further reinforces its satirical nature. The reference to “Photoshop AI Avenue”, combined with the closing remark “National Peace achieved,” presents the publication as political satire rather than a conventional report of an official engagement.

WHAT WE FOUND

The viral post uses a manipulated photograph and a fictional address to create the impression that Adeleke visited Atiku at a campaign office in Abuja.

Although Atiku genuinely congratulated Adeleke after his re-election, there is no evidence that the congratulatory message was followed by a meeting in which Adeleke presented his Certificate of Return to Atiku.

The alleged location “Number 419, Photoshop AI Avenue, Dubai, Abuja” is not a credible address, while the photograph contains elements from an earlier image involving Adeleke and Peter Obi.

The available evidence therefore shows that the viral post was created as political satire and does not provide evidence of an actual visit or certificate presentation.

CONCLUSION

The claim that Governor Ademola Adeleke visited Atiku Abubakar at his campaign office and presented him with a certificate is false. While Atiku congratulated Adeleke after the Osun governorship election, DNN FactCheck found no credible evidence that Adeleke visited him or presented him with his Certificate of Return. The manipulated photograph, fictional address and satirical wording further show that the viral post was not a factual report of an official meeting.
