The claim gained attention in August 2026 after Ogogo’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, separately appealed for medical assistance for their father in videos shared on Instagram.
In one of the videos, Lima said her father had cancer and that hospitals were refusing to treat him. She appealed to Nigerians to help the family find a hospital or medical professional willing to take on his case.
In a separate video, Kira disclosed that her father was battling stage-four cancer and said the hospital was no longer willing to continue chemotherapy. The daughters said they were seeking medical assistance rather than financial donations.
VERIFICATION
DNN FactCheck reviewed the statements made by Ogogo’s daughters and the explanations subsequently provided by medical professionals on the issue.
The daughters’ statements confirm that the family was seeking further medical assistance and believed that hospitals were no longer willing to continue their father’s treatment. However, the claim that hospitals had simply abandoned the actor requires further medical context.
Medical doctor Olusina Ajidahun, known as The Bearded Dr Sina, addressed the issue after the videos circulated. He explained that patients with stage-four cancer may be moved to palliative care after chemotherapy and other treatment options have been explored or are no longer considered appropriate.
According to Ajidahun, palliative care focuses on managing symptoms and improving a patient’s quality of life when treatment is no longer able to cure the underlying disease. He warned that describing such a decision as hospitals refusing to treat a patient could create the impression that medical workers were deliberately abandoning the patient.
However, Ajidahun was not involved in Ogogo’s treatment and said he was commenting independently after seeing the videos shared by the actor’s daughters. His explanation therefore provides medical context on palliative care but does not independently establish the specific treatment decision made by Ogogo’s doctors.
DNN FactCheck also found that reports about Ogogo’s stage-four cancer diagnosis and the family’s account of difficulties accessing further treatment were based primarily on statements made by his daughters. While his daughters said hospitals were no longer willing to continue treatment, a medical expert explained that stopping chemotherapy or moving a patient to palliative care can occur when aggressive treatment is no longer considered beneficial or appropriate.
However, there is insufficient independent evidence to establish that Ogogo’s doctors specifically stopped chemotherapy because they had determined that further treatment was clinically ineffective.
